Red Beryl/Bixbite aka Scarlet Emerald from the Thomas Range is a manganese-colored member of the beryl family, showing a natural raspberry-to-scarlet red hue within a true hexagonal crystal structure. The crystals develop in gas-rich rhyolitic cavities, which is why surfaces often show natural texture, tiny quartz coatings, or rhyolitic contact points.
Color is the defining feature of this material—strong internal saturation and even tone are typical of Thomas Range pieces, with translucency that increases toward the crystal core. Prism faces may show sharp natural edges, subtle growth patterns, and occasional internal zoning when viewed under strong light.
Chemically, Red Beryl belongs to the same mineral group as emerald and aquamarine, with manganese substituting into the lattice to produce the distinctive red color.
